- Approximately 35,000 people die in motor vehicle crashes each year. About 50% of these people could be saved if they wore their seatbelt.
- More than 90% of all motorists believe safety belts are a good idea, but less than 14% actually use them. Are you going to be part of this 14%, or are you going to risk your life by not using a seatbelt?
Our team did an experiment to find out the average time it takes to put on a seat belt and it was approximately 3.5 seconds. Recovery time from an accident in which you are not wearing a seat belt could take months or even years - IF you survive.
every time i get into a car, no matter how short of a distance i'm traveling, i always wear my seatbelt.
ReplyDeleteit takes three and a half seconds just to do it, and it should be a conditioned response as soon as you get into any vehicle.
taking just over three seconds to fasten a seatbelt is definitely worth doing if it means keeping you alive.
I think that you are right Kelsey, putting on your seatbelt should become an automatic thing you do when you get into the car, even if you are just going down the street!
ReplyDeleteWear your seatbelt:) I do believe some people do not wear seatbelts because they are worried it will cut them or they'd rather get thrown from the car thinking they'd be more protected. However!.. I talked to a police officer from tazewell county at tcyb and he taught me that the car is the safest place because if you get thrown from the car you are usually going to be thrown into the path of destruction of the car which is more dangerous; the car would crush you.
ReplyDeleteI used to not wear my seatbelt when I was little but then everytime I road with my grandma the first thing she would say is.. Kids! Buckle Up! So over the years it has just become habit.. so thank you grandma:)
